About

Hello, there! My name is Krista Lynn Weeks, and I’m your typical Renaissance soul. I love to learn. I’m kind of obsessed with it actually. I have too many goals and dreams for one lifetime: too many books I want to read, too many languages I want to speak, too many instruments I want to play. It’s hard for me to narrow my interests down, so for the most part, I’ve refused to. I joke with my husband that someday I’m going to get a business card that says:

Human Being

Because that’s all we are in the end, aren’t we? We are beautiful, dynamic, complex human beings, each one of us a piece of living poetry in this world. Each one of us with an important story.

I spent my junior high, high school, and college years performing on a stage. I learned the intricacies of story, the movements and beats, by performing them. I learned about character arcs by embodying them. I learned that often the most significant moments in a musical are the silent ones, the emotions not stated explicitly in the script, but rather read between the lines. It’s the actor’s job to portray what’s there, whether the script gives him the words or not.

And isn’t this also true of life? It’s in the silence when life slows down, or when it stops working for us, that reflection occurs. We face ourselves in the mirror and decide whether or not we like what we see, and what we’re going to do about it. Silence is the birthplace of growth.

These are the significant beats in a story. Our stories.

As a fiction writer and an extreme introvert, I’m a professional at getting lost inside my own head. I’ve been writing stories since I was nine years old. Funnily enough, I find that often my first drafts read like scripts.

I am an aspiring author of fiction for children. I’m a member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and a graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature. I’m currently revising a fantasy novel for middle grade readers. In my free time I enjoy singing at church, reading classic literature, and the occasional tap dance.
